crawls out of shallow grave AUHHHH after like 14 hours of combined sims 4 play time over the last two days im proud to say i basically am 95% done the game! i've finally gotten the main game loop working (*thanks to judicious use of singletons etc) and now when you die/win/whatever the game will display the end screen and give you an option to replay–which does work!
if i really feel like it i will also implement the pause button. but maybe not ... anyway all i have to do now is place everything everywhere lsdfsudhfnsdfhskdlf

day 19, 20 etc

 yesterday joyously got my fancy new map and textures etc to work -> today smashed it to bits when i decided switching to URP would be a good idea. now all the pre-existing numbers i had for my light intensities and calculations are useless #cool ... anyhow ..  tried importing some things into the new Official map. unfortunately some stuff like the timer i got working BEFORE are totally broken. it's ok....i have like 5 days to fix everything. sure

 several headache inducing attempts at doing work later

i have added a timer function that works (yay) and rigged the models (not yay) and exported the bear FBX successfully (yay!) but not the minotaur (not yay) and i will have to do a load of extra work for that...ugh

DAY 13+14

 bro help 😭 well, i made a funny maze (i'll take screenshots tmrw) and also an ugly door that has two (2) animations. however i am fighting for my life trying to understand the unity import process so tomorrow i think i will try a Fun New Thing which is spawning/respawning enemies and then maybe also drops/the timer

DAY 12 (I DID WORK BUT I FORGOT)

 WOW i literally got a lot of progress done yesterday  but completely failed to post about it... yes here it is


in short i 1) added a health bar to the enemies, and 2) added in the flashlight dmg mechanic. yesterday, i realized that something was totally broken (that being having the Sphere Collider being attached to the parent enemy element rather than being a separate child) – good news, i fixed it today.

day 10: creating the beast

 ackk..!!! tragcially was too busy yesterday to do work !!  took a break from the coding side of things to make one of the models; mr bear is done ... just needs to be rigged and animated

i will have to make a State enum for the Enemy class  in order to switch between animations...

DAY 8 (not late, enemy throws tomatoes now)

 BOOO TOMATO TOMATO yes the enemy will now throw tomatoes at you upon entering its range! :3 

em .. ... had some struggling on 1) making the tomatoes despawn appropriately (turns out the Destroy() function takes an optional time delay which is cool), 2) actually detecting the player (i should've just put the sphere collider on the Enemy parent gameobject), 3) hitting the player (i just increased the force and decreased the angle of the projectile so that it'd hit you roughly at every point within the detection area)


I still have an issue where the amount damaged will be twice the amount I want it to be (yikes) but whatever it's fine

DAY 7 (LATE AGAIN)

 YIKES ok i still haven't gotten the enemy attack mechanics but i did make the prefabs for the health and projectiles today LOL emmmm yes they do decrease player HP as expected ...... very cool

DAY 6 (I'M LATE): more boring health

 (hangs head) well...i caved and asked chatgpt about a few specific questions i had. i'd followed a tutorial for implementing player/enemy health but i wasn't sure about the approach on adding it to my player/enemy units (it was in fact inheritance of the class as i'd suspected...)

anyhow, no fun breakthroughs today or fun visuals...just me making a bunch of scripts and scratching my head. hopefully more fun tmrw.

 ok, didn't really get much work done today (forgot charger at home and battery nearly died at school, then was busy for rest of day) but i did create a basic player detection thing where if you get in range of an enemy's "detection area" it will rotate towards you...

DAY 4: flashlight

 OOPS almost forgot to make my blog post today :D i put in the basic flashlight mechanic (on/off, battery drain) and also got the battery "refill" feature working :3
